PYA Children's Genre Book Fair, Victoria Shopping Centre, Harrogate, 14th May 2022 - 10am to 4pm

We're finalising the arrangements for the Children's Genre Book Fair to be held in Harrogate in May and here is the shape of the event that we're trialling - aiming for a larger event of the same format - subject to lessons learnt - in October, one open to all genres of books. We are keen for it to be a success and anticipate that it will be the first of many.

The fee for the event will be £15 unfortunately not refundable unless the event is cancelled due to Covid restrictions and places are limited so we’re unable to guarantee your place until payment is received. There are still a few slots left (not many) and you can include your Children's books (picture books up to and including YA) even if you can't attend on the day.

We’re going to allow purchasers of your books to make payment by cash or a card  but bear in mind that card payments are subject to a charge made by the card reader operator. Six tables with cloths and six chairs will be located in the central foyer of the Victoria Shopping Centre and participants will need to provide book holders for each book they will be selling. Only one copy of each book will be displayed on the table with a stock for sale under the tables. PYA will provide pop-up displays and we ask that authors do not bring their own.

A rota will be drawn up so that the tables are staffed throughout the day but we’d like only one person behind each table at all times. Jane and Neelie will act as ‘floaters’ to allow comfort breaks. We’re hoping that participants are happy to play an active part in manning the tables, distributing flyers and engaging with the public both as ambassadors for PYA and to promote titles that are being showcased. There will be a flyer on the day and a small number of advertising opportunities are available on the flyer for members' books.

WH Smith have agreed to hold story time sessions and we’ll be in touch shortly to discuss this opportunity with participants.

We’ll be producing detailed instructions for the event in the coming month but it’s important that authors arrive with their stock by 9.30am ready for the start of the fair at 10am and remain until it ends at 4pm.

Authors who are unable to attend the event in person but who want to participate but can’t be there on the day are welcome – the same £15 fee applies - but must have their books delivered by 9.30am and collected promptly at 4pm. We can’t take responsibility for stock that is not collected on time.

We’re looking forward to the event and hope that it will be a winner for PYA and for our members and that we can hold a larger one in October.
